One of the biggest opportunities available primarily to English teachers is teaching abroad.

If you are young and just finishing college, you might want to consider traveling. The idea is to travel now, while you can, so you don’t regret not traveling later.

If you can afford it, the ideal situation is to travel on a vacation and scope out the local scene to determine if you want to teach English there first. If you do, fill out as many applications as you can and set up job interviews while you are there. Meeting a hiring manager in person is a big advantage to have over other English teacher job applicants who are unable or unwilling to travel to the country first for an interview.

Sound expensive? Well it’s not. A little money spent on a vacation will pay for itself many times over if you land a job teaching English in that country.

Most people, when they think of traveling, think of cramped hotel rooms as the only place to stay, but here are two options that most people never think of when traveling.

Private Vacation Homes (or rental villas)

Private vacation homes, known also as holiday homes or villas are houses that rent on a weekly basis. They are not much help for fly-in meetings. For those, only an airport hotel will do.

A private home rental beats the pants off a crowded hotel and most villas have a private pool.

There are Caribbean villa and house rentals across the Atlantic region. There are vacation homes in every country around the world.

If you are bringing your family along on vacation, a private rental home is much better than a crowded hotel room.

Most vacation homes include a kitchen so you do not have to eat out for every meal unless you want to.

You can find vacation villa rentals over the Internet complete with pictures and some even have virtual 3D walkthroughs.

Bed and Breakfasts

Another option that most people never think of when traveling is the old Bed and Breakfast inn.
