Editing
Editing or “getting it polished” is the phase in which students review the composition for correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and capitalization. Key goals and tasks include:
Proofreading for the conventions of writing.
Checking and rechecking.
During editing, teachers focus on the mechanics of writing—spelling, grammar, punctuation, and capitalization.
Publishing
This is the ‘going public’ stage. Teachers can help by encouraging students to publish their work in newsletters, online publications, school newspapers, yearbooks, etc.
Evaluating
In this stage, the writer reviews his or her work and self-evaluates, and the audience evaluates the effectiveness of the writing.
