The New York State Education Department’s Office of Higher Education has released the Teach Online Services.

Teach Online Services is a web portal for new teachers, parents, and those thinking about becoming a teacher in New York.

The Teach Online Services portal streamlines and simplifies the process of applying for, and maintaining, your teaching certification in New York. Here are some of the services the web portal provides:

Apply online and track the progress of your application for any one of hundreds of teacher certificates

Apply online and track the progress of your application for fingerprint clearance

Pay fees with a credit card online or print a coupon and mail your certified money order

Search certification requirements online to determine all requirements – academic credentials, examinations, workshops and professional work experience – for your preferred certificate

Maintain your certificate by updating your professional development record online

Search the online certification database to check the certification status of teachers in your local district.

TEACH Online can be used by any computer connected to the Internet. You can check it out at http://ohe32.nysed.gov/tcert/teach/

My only question is when is California going to get with it and do something like this? California should be leading the nation in simplified technology initiatives like Teach Online. You would think that with the tech capital of the world in Silicon Valley, California would be leading the nation in the use of technology. Once again, the Republicans have cut education funding and we are falling behind. I’m always surprised with how many people are so stupid that they would vote for a Republican governor just because he’s an actor. As if politics is nothing more than a popular contest.
