Costa Rica borders Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the south-southeast. Costa Rica has beautiful beaches, majestic volcanoes, and amazing rainforests and wildlife. Costa Rica is Central America’s tourist hot spot. Costa Rica stands as the most visited nation in the Central American region, with 1.9 million foreign visitors in 2007.
Costa Rica has had fifty-nine years of uninterrupted democracy, making it one of the most stable countries in the region. Costa Rica has been able to successfully avoid the widespread violence that has plagued most of Central America.
According to the CIA World Factbook, Costa Rica has the fourth highest inflation rate in Latin America. About 16% of the people are below the poverty line (2006 estimate) and the unemployment rate is a good 5.5%. The Costa Rican economy grew nearly 5% in 2006.

For many Costa Ricans, speaking English is a way to get hired or move up the ladder in their jobs or careers. This means that many people want to learn English, and there are many ESL jobs available.
Teach English Costa Rica Schools
There are not many Costa Rica schools that will hire you from overseas. However, many will hire you on the spot if you walk into their office, speak English, and have a college degree in pretty much anything. Laura Dulin has taught English for the past three years in Costa Rica and she writes this about proper appearance, “Costa Ricans place a high value on appearance, and a neat, professional appearance will make a good first impression during an interview. Men should wear slacks and a nice shirt to an interview, and women should wear nice pants, or a skirt. The laid back, ‘I just got back from the beach’ appearance turns Costa Ricans off. They even have a special derogatory name for the way gringos look when they are traveling, gringos cucinos, which means dirty gringos.”
It is also important to look for a job at the appropriate time of the year. In Costa Rica, the school year begins at the end of January and ends in early December. Start getting your resume out to schools in early December. The best time to be looking for work is at the beginning of January.
