Excerpt from the CSET study guide

Teacher candidates studying for the CSET subtest III Physical Education section should be able to describe basic movements used in Physical Education (PE).

Teachers need to be aware that some form of describing a movement, whether it be on the multiple choice section or on the constructed-response section, is always on the CSET exam.

Example

Question: Describe the movements involved in throwing, catching, and batting.

Answer: When throwing, the arm swings back in preparation for throw; elbow moves forward. The trunk rotates toward throwing side of body. The weight of the foot is shifted to nonthrowing side during follow-through.

During catching, the eyes follow the ball; elimination of avoidance reaction (fear). Arms bend at elbows; relaxed; object brought toward body. Nonrigid catching style; hands brought together as catch is made.

When batting: eyes follow the ball; the elbow is cocked in a horizontal position; noncross grip; bat held above head. Weight shifted to front foot upon contact with ball. Hit “through the ball”; continuity of movement.
