Vowels:

o – hot, of, note, off, for
e – bed, jacket, blaze, often, she, her
u – much, cute, tube, bull, fur
A vowel between two consonants is usually short: pin, cap, hot, bug, bed.
A vowel before two or more consonants is usually short: wish, graph, much, blotter, lettuce, happen, itch, hospital, cinder, bumper.
A vowel followed by a consonant plus āeā is usually long: pine, date, dope, cute, mete.
The letter āyā sometimes is a vowel and it has two sounds: my, baby.
Double Vowels:
io – nation, lion
ea – teach, bread, great
ou – ounce, though, soup, would
au – because, laugh
oo – moon, book
ai – pain, said
ay – play
ee – see, been
oi – coin
ow – own, cow
oa – boat, road, oak
Medial Vowels: The middle vowel is repeated and reinforced.
