Teacher candidates studying for the CSET Multiple Subjects exam should know a little about levers.
Levers were first described about 260 BC by the ancient Greek mathematician Archimedes (287-212 BC).
A lever is a simple machine that makes work easier as it involves moving a load around a pivot using force.
There are three types of levers: first class, second class, and third class.

In a first class lever, the pivot (fulcrum) is between the force and the load.
Examples of first class levers include:


In a second class lever, the load is between the pivot (fulcrum) and the force.
Examples of second class levers include:
