If you are studying for the CSET Multiple Subjects exam, you should know the geology facts below for the subtest II, Science section.

Question: What are the four layers of the earth?

Answer
Crust – thin zone 5 -25 miles only rocks we study even in the deepest mines

Mantle – largest zone, crystalline silicates magnesium, calcium, iron

Outer Core – liquid

Inner Core – solid, Iron & nickel

Question: What are igneous rocks?

Answer
Igneous rocks are cooled molten rock matter (lava). Glassy, fine grained, fragmental, volcanic rock = Basalt, Plutonic rock = Granite

Question: What are sedimentary rocks?

Answer
Formed by deposition, usually in a body of water. Mud, sand, pebbles, salty. (Sandstone, Salt, Limestone)

Question: What are metamorphic rocks?

Answer
Produced when sedimentary or igneous rocks are transformed by high temperature or pressure (Quartz, Marble).

Question: What are organic rocks?

Answer
