Your CSET Test

The CSET test evaluates critical thinking skills required by teachers in the classroom. The CSET test is usually taken by elementary and high school teacher candidates. Passing CSET test scores supplement CBEST scores and are required by anyone wanting to become a teacher in California.

The CSET test can be frightening for teacher candidates, but with proper studying, discipline, and effort, this fear can be defeated. One of the best ways to practice for the CSET test is to answer practice questions that are modeled after previous CSET exams. In general, the more practice questions you are able to answer, and the more you do answer, the better you’ll do on your CSET test. Answering practice questions also leads you in the proper direction of study. Questions you are unable to answer let you know which topics you need to study more.

Learning relevant vocabulary will help with the all subtests of the CSET exam you are taking. It is best to start vocabulary expansion well before the test, since it can take quite a lot of time to memorize new words and their meanings.

Using memory enhancing activities like crosswords, drag-n-drop matching, chronology, scramble, and flashcard exercises will greatly speed up the memorization process.

Writing in advance is a well-advised idea. You can find or create CSET-type essays, and write them often. The more you write them, the better, and faster, you’ll become at writing.

Remember to be fresh and well fed before the test. Sleep plenty the night before, and have a good breakfast. Don’t cram study on the night prior to the exam, a late night will only hinder your performance. Arrive early to the test, and stay as calm as you can. The CSET is a long test, and can be very monotonous. Getting nervous will only waste time.

I do not recommend CSET message forums because of the risk regarding dishonest business owners, acting like a student, who post in a public message forum simply to push their own products, goods, or services. My thought is that if a teacher needs to post in a CSET message forum under an alias account in order to promote business for her goods, then the products, goods, or services must not be that good in the first place. Another reason I do not recommend CSET message forums is that often, it is the blind leading the blind. Knowledge is often posted in forums that is erroneous and filled with errors. Finally, CSET message forums are very time consuming. Often days of CSET test preparation are lost scrolling through egocentric, conflicting, and emotionally charged messages. It can take hours of scrolling through chit-chat messages to find valuable information. This is not effective time management in preparing for the CSET exam.

Start studying early, study hard, study often and your results will show it! Focus on mastering the CSET test, not dreading it.

How would you like to memorize 80 pages of CSET study material just by looking at it once? Sten M. Andersen, memory savvy B.Sc. in Cognitive Psychology, writes, “How would you like to burn 60-70 pages of a book into your memory after studying it once - memorize an entire magazine at a single reading!

Imagine walking into a room long enough to take just one glance around. Walking out. And then making everyone’s head turn when you are able to… recite each and every single object in sight. Yes, every single object.

The truth is virtually anyone can train their mind to do the same thing.

You can (at any age) perform feats of memory that would seem like magic to most untrained onlookers. In fact, one French Magician used his trained memory to do just that. But it’s not magic and you don’t have to be special. Or even considered “smart.” Most anyone can train their brain to recall large amounts of information through pure brain power.

Some people try to memorize as many mnemonic devices and acronyms as they can. But memorizing words to help you remember other words DOES NOT improve your memory.

After developing and training your memory for just a short while, you’ll start to notice that you can put facts away with less and less effort . The more you practice, the more you’ll be able to recall (and the more you will impress those around you).

If you want to train your mind to do seemingly impossible feats, then let me tell you about the book that spills the beans on super recall.”
