FCU offers credit cards for teachers at special low rates. For example, the Class Act MasterCard offers rates that are about 4% a year lower than other credit cards available to the public. This will result in big time savings on your monthly credit card bill. FCU also offers very low rates on balance transfers from your existing credit cards.
TFCU offers a Visa credit card for teachers for special low rates and no annual fee. They also offer a Secured Visa Credit Card that will help you rebuild your credit once you become a teacher. Of course the TFCU Credit Card is only available to members of the education community and their family members.
Teachers Federal Credit Union (TFCU), one of the largest credit unions in the United States, with more than 183,000 members and over $2.6 billion in total assets, announced that in a report issued by the independent Credit Union National Association (CUNA) that its members received more than $33 million in direct financial benefits during the 2007 calendar year. The Benefits of Membership Report recently published by CUNA found that TFCU members received benefits equivalent to $190 per member or $361 per member household. The report generated by CUNA compared TFCU’s dividend rates, loan rates, and fees to those of banking institutions in the State of New York.
Teacher Credit Unions are able to offer lower interest on credit cards because they are not-for-profit, member-owned financial institutions which exist to serve their members. Teacher credit union membership is 5,419,261 nationwide.
