California Receives an F in School Funding

Last month, Education Week magazine gave California a D in school funding, stating that the golden state ranks 43rd and spends $2,000 less per pupil than the national average.

And things just got alot worse. With Schwarzenegger’s budget proposal released last week, California should now receive an F.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has proposed a $5 billion cut in school funding to help close the gaping state budget shortfall.

The Vista Unified School District is handing out layoff notices to 133 employees, mostly teachers, as the district – like many others around California – grapples with potentially deep state funding cuts. The layoffs would occur after the school year ends.
