Remember Airborne, that product created by a second-grade teacher that made national news? It turns out the whole thing was a scam.

If you read the packaging of Airborne, it states:

“Airborne® was developed by a school teacher who was sick of getting sick in the classroom. It can be taken 2 ways: at the first sign of a cold symptom, or before entering crowded, potentially germ-infested environments, like airplanes and offices. Airborne’s unique natural formula with 17 active ingredients, offers maximum vitamin and herbal support for hours! Plus it contains natural ginger for nausea!”

“There’s no credible evidence that what’s in Airborne can prevent colds or protect you from a germy environment,” CSPI senior nutritionist David Schardt told CNN. “Airborne is basically an overpriced, run-of-the-mill vitamin pill that’s been cleverly, but deceptively, marketed.”

In a class action settlement for false advertising, the California herbal supplement firm will pay $23.2 million. Airborne will refund money to consumers who bought the product, said the non-profit advocacy group Center for Science in the Public Interest. In addition, Airborne will pay for nationwide advertising that outlines how to file for a refund.

That’s nothing to sneeze at.
