Tip # 1 - Check Consumer Reports

Check Consumer Reports and find out which cars are the safest. Sure you want something that looks good, but most people simply go for looks and ignore the safety factor. Never ignore safety.

Go to a reputable car repair shop and ask if you can bring the used car by for them to look at. They will almost always say yes. While you are there, ask what cars they have to repair most often. You will also need to ask what the used car inspection includes, how long it will take, and how much they will charge. Always get this information in writing to be safe.

Once the used vehicle has been inspected, ask the mechanic for a written report with a cost estimate for all the necessary repairs.

Be sure the report includes the vehicle’s make, model and VIN. If you decide to make an offer to the dealer after approving the inspection, you can use the estimated repair costs to negotiate the price of the vehicle.
